جهينة نيوز -The United Nations Development Program (UNDP), through the Ministry of Local Administration, has contributed a six-bed quarantine unit to the King Abdullah University Hospital.

Minister of Local Administration Walid Masri told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that his ministry, through its partnership with the UNDP and other international partners and donors, directed these programmes to supporting the health sector and the health system, which is exerting enormous efforts in facing and combating the coronavirus pandemic.

Masri commended the UNDP for its contribution to strengthening the capabilities of the different sectors in the Kingdom, especially healthcare, in light of "these exceptional circumstances that Jordan, like other countries in the world, is facing to counter the outbreak."

He said that the Jordanian model in promptly responding to the pandemic and the one-team spirit among all ministries and entities, has remarkably succeeded, underlining the key role of the municipalities and service councils in boosting the health system.

Hospital Director Mohammad Ghazo said that the fully-equipped unit is a backup of the hospital's 16-bed isolation ward, and will help in the transfer of suspected infections for quarantine in the unit before lab test results emerge.
