جهينة نيوز -– Minister of Culture Bassem Tweissi said that the novel coronavirus pandemic laid bare the vital role of culture in an "anxious human scene" and that it is a key line of defense against the outbreak.

Addressing an extraordinary virtual conference of Arab Ministers of Culture organized by the Arab League's Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), Tweissi said that during the crisis, his ministry managed to develop a new outlook to cultural services, as it sought to pursue the successes made as Jordan offered an advanced model in countering the disease.

The ministry had devised a vision balancing the concepts of cultural adaptation and cultural rights, he said, stressing that the battle against the pandemic that "we strive to counter with all our strength and energies" is a collective and inseparable effort.

During the conference, which was chaired by Egyptian Culture Minister Enas Abdel Dayem and attended Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Tuwaisi pointed to the lesson the Arab world can learn from the pandemic that underlined the need for cultural action "in these exceptional circumstances."

These are related to cultural values, the strongest arm in the battle of awareness and prevention whose basis is the values of voluntary commitment, adding that cultural immunity is no less important than health immunity, "which we should work on."
