جهينة نيوز -The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has provided equipment for early Covid-19 diagnosis and monitoring development of virus patient to the Ministry of Health, worth more than JOD150,000.
The donation is part of the efforts exerted by Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC) in cooperation with the IAEA to support national endeavours to combat the spread of the novel coronavirus in the Kingdom.
These devices include two early diagnosis devices using the latest technologies in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy (RT-PCR) in addition to personal protection equipment, diagnostic reagents, laboratory consumables and biosafety cabinets.
RT-PCR devices are among the most important devices that help to rapid detection of viruses, such as those causing coronavirus infection, using the technique of chain reaction polymers.
During the handing over ceremony, Head of the JAEC, Dr. Khaled Toukan, said obtaining these devices was a result of the intensive efforts made by the Commission through its continuous communication with the IAEA in supporting technical cooperation activities with the agency aimed at promoting peaceful uses and technological applications of atomic energy in Jordan.
For his part, Minister of Health Dr. Sa'ad Jaber said that the ministry has updated the capabilities of the Central Labs Directorate with devices and equipment and developed human cadres in a bid to counter the spread of novel coronavirus in Jordan.
These laboratories now have very advanced capabilities and have conducted tests for 52,000 samples from different regions of Jordan, the minister said.
Dr. Jaber valued the JAEC's role by providing the central laboratories with the latest advanced equipment with a IAEA donation, and appreciated the Commission's efforts in enhancing the capabilities of Bashir Hospital with a linear accelerator and a SPECT-CT device for treating cancer.
